從80年代的校園搖滾出發、一直到90年代為另類搖滾劃下輝煌扉頁、更在21世紀征服搖滾主流，R.E.M.這個無人不知的名字，用三十年的時光不斷地股推動年輕世代搖滾精神裡那份不可漠視的厚實力量。這支來自喬治亞州 Athens市的樂團面對英倫新浪漫搖滾、電子搖滾、饒舌搖滾的潮流替換，始終堅持最純正的搖滾元素，R.E.M.用30年的時光證明，校園搖滾也可以成為偉大的搖滾樂團。R.E.M.成軍於1980年，由Michael Stipe（主唱）、 Peter Buck（吉他手）、Mike Mills（貝斯手）、和Bill Berry（鼓手）所共同組成。Michael Stipe獨特的個人魅力以及迷幻無重力的唱腔，加上Peter Buck引人注意的吉他音色，讓R.E.M.的傲人才氣，很快地就被注意。R.E.M.於1981年被獨立廠牌Hib-Tone相中，出版了第一支單曲〈Radio Free Europe〉，更於隔年推出首張EP《Chronic Town》。而就在1983年的春天，R.E.M.出版了廣受好評的首張專輯《Murmur》，並且開始以固定巡迴演出的方式，確立奠定了自己的樂壇地位。《Murmur》出版之後獲得了一面倒的好評，滾石雜誌在當年還把它評為「年度專輯」之一，專輯更在Billboard 專輯榜上達到了第36位。樂隊於隔年再接再厲發行了第二張專輯《Reckoning》，這張作品的推出，再次獲得各方肯定，連知名音樂雜誌NME也大力讚賞：「《Reckoning》鞏固了R.E.M. 作為這個星球上最棒樂團的地位。」樂隊繼續在1985年推出第三張專輯《Fables of the Reconstruction》，R.E.M.開始嘗試與不同的音樂團隊合作，找來Joe Boyd（Fairport Convention、Nick Drake）擔任製作人，並在英國錄製專輯，這張作品在美國地區締造出銷售佳績。

R.E.M.這個奠定美國獨立搖滾典範，可說是樂史上最偉大的Alternative Rock樂隊，曾榮獲多次葛萊美獎、全英音樂獎、Billboard音樂獎、MTV音樂獎最佳樂團…等無數大獎的加冕，更在2007當年入選進入搖滾名人堂。而就在樂團第五張專輯《Document》發行邁向25年之際，唱片公司特地推出25週年豪華紀念版，以2CD方式重新數位錄製發行，讓許多當時錯過這些好音樂的樂迷，可以再次珍藏這些經典之作。《Document》這張專輯，在當初發行之際，獲得眾多知名媒體的高度讚賞，AllMusic贈與四星半、Rolling Stone也獻上四星半高評，而在美國地區更達成白金唱片的銷售佳績，打入告示牌專輯榜Top10。不僅如此，Rolling Stone更將這張專輯入選在他們的史上500大專輯名單之列，Slant Magazine 也將其選作80年代50大專輯之林。這張紀念盤除了在CD1當中收錄1987年發行首張專輯當中11首經典作品之外，更在CD2當中網羅20首珍貴的現場演唱作品。《Document》當中的〈Finest Worksong〉、常被後輩樂團翻玩的〈It's the End of the World As We Know It〉、被Q magazine選為百大吉他單曲的〈The One I Love〉…都是R.E.M.樂迷不可錯過的歌曲。此次【豪華2CD】紀念版本，更內附四張團員造型卡、以及限量海報。
